Drawings
I like the immediacy of working with charcoal on paper whether combining minimal marks to suggest an image or creating layers that transition gradually from one shape to another. Charcoal is malleable in a way that paint is not because of the ability of paper to absorb charcoal and withstand surface treatments, whether burnishing a heavy layer for a saturated value or erasing and smudging to remove layers. The effects are endless but especially suited to the transient impressions I’m trying to convey.
